RW, I'm not opposed to raising the minimum wage, nor am I opposed to the concept of it. There is value in establishing a floor for hourly wages.

Then why did you argue against it here:

What would you do when increasing minimum wage increases unemployment, increases the demand for imported goods, and increases the demand for illegal immigrant labor?

re: However, I don't believe that minimum wage should ever be confused with a "living wage." Otherwise, we should just raise the minimum wage to $20/hour.

I don't know... I think we are both too removed from a "living wage" to pin point that number. And of course it is fluid based on geography and other factors.

Still, I've been living in this country a bit longer than you. And I'll tell you that was always the goal... to lift everyone into a decent lifestyle. The goal was never to make the rich much richer.

That's the America I was raised in... that was the goal and the promise of democracy and capitalism and our society. It was never selfish.

Now it seems to be different... and that's very tough for a person that was raised and thus thinks like I think. You get that?

$28 a week? Nothing. America, democracy, capitalism was suppose to make everyone middle class, minimum. That was the promise. We knew it would happen... we were all in this together and we had the greatest country and the greatest system and the best people in the world. You wouldn't believe the 100% confidence that everyone would have a great standard of living.

Now it's class warfare. Everyone for themselves.

It sucks. It really sucks.

<That's where I'm coming from.>
