ElM didn't answer that question when I asked. It was of course in English because ElM can't talk Mandarin, neither can the local yokels, and the Chinese can't speak Portuguese or the local lingo. There really is only English as a lingua franca, perhaps with a translator who acts as go between for the one who can't use English.

It's amusing that while ElM rails against the dreaded Anglos, they all use the language and a lot more besides. Fibre and ditch diggers were invented in English. The legal system they use was invented in English. They live in the shadow of and use the English legacy.

The Anglos set it all up for them and as ElM says, left the locals around the world to get on with it, making the mistakes they do, but having to be responsible for what happens.

Thank goodness for the British Empire. TJ is so lucky to have been part of it. Same for his foreign affairs grandfather though they all liked to moan about opium. ElM lives on its legacy and so does Unitel. The USA itself is just an off-shoot.

Locals speak Portuguese. All the Huawei top managers speak English as do the UNITEL's.
Me and the CEO speak German too. He was a teacher at a Gemran university.
