You can have an absence of governance -- it is called societal breakdown. You might want to have societal breakdown -- but it is not what most people want or dream of for themselves or their children. You cannot have a life worth living without government. The real question is how to achieve good government. That takes thought and hard work and an educated people who care about good government. People who simply hate government do nothing to work towards good government and are little more than parasites -- whining little children that think the society exists only to meet their needs while they give nothing back. You would not last fifteen minutes without the help of other people -- unless you are a hermit living in a cave hunting and fishing for sustenance -- a cave man. You may not be capable of recognizing the benefits you receive from government, but the history of America is the history of a country, a country we can be proud of, searching for good government and the freedom that good government makes possible. More than anything, that is what has made America a place to be so richly admired by people all around the world. It is not our military, it is not our wealth, it is our ardent and ceaseless commitment to live in a society with good government that is most admired. Do we fall short? Sure -- we fall far short. But we keep on trying. The alternative is to either buy a gun and live in a cave, or whine like a baby and do nothing useful. If you want something, you need to work for it.
