Of course, we don't really know what happened. When they release the tape, it might shed a little more light on the situation. I would fully expect to get arrested if I went berserk in front of the cops, whether I was inside my house or outside. There could be all kinds of extenuating circumstances that we don't know that would have led to the cops to arrest Gates. There were several other cops there - at least one of them black - all of whom back up the Sgt. There could be all kinds of reasons for arresting him - one of them might be to diffuse the situation. He's an old man, maybe they were concerned that there was something wrong medically. Taking him into custody would allow them to render help if it were needed. This is now a story with "legs" and having a beer in the White House isn't going to make it go away.
