"It is possible in very late term abortions that there is some response to stimuli." To clarify this, I was just looking at various research suggesting that the fetus might be able to "sense" pain at about 7 months. This is not the state of consciousness that most people relate to but it is consciousness at the most minimal and fundamental level and therefore is of strong concern to ethicists. Obviously, 20 weeks is well within safety parameters for this type of ethical concern.
