Fact is that Professor was having a bad day or week, culminating in having to break into his own house. He was a time bomb waiting to go off. All I can say is sorry about your luck prof, you probably weren't singled out.

Long ago, I had experiences with the Cambridge MA police that made me agree with Obama. The last one, I was looking out a window of a house where I roomed and saw four teenage guys struggling to wheel my landlord's motor scooter away down the street. Since I was standing right next to the phone, and the police number was insdie the directory cover, I dialed the police and described the situation. There was a silence and then a hesitant voice said, "Well, what do you think we ought to do?" I hung up the phone in disgust, opened the front door, and yelled at the punks, who dropped the scooter in the middle of the street and ran away. Maybe if I had said that they were black (they were white and no doubt from nearby Somerville) I would have got some action.
