Having neither Medicare or Medi-Cal I don't know the specifics. I do know my Doctors are glad to take Medi-Cal, but even the receptionist looks pained when a Medicare patient calls. But they positively light up with a smile if they hear the Medicare patient also has Medi-Cal. Perhaps there's generally a problem collecting Medicare co-payments. An anesthesiologist I know is always resentful when he gets stuck with a number of Medicare patients, he complains about it for days afterward. But I've never heard him complain about "being forced to serve" a Medi-Cal patient. .
