For 2009, HSA compatible plans must have a minimum deductible of $1,150 for one person and $2,300 for a family.

But these plans must ALSO have a maximum out-of-pocket limit of no greater than $5,800 for one person and $11,060 for a family.

If the out-of-pocket limit is greater than this, no HSA contribution can be made. A $5,000 deductible is fine, just so long as any potential co-payments can't exceed an additional $800.
