I'm hoping we legalize drugs and clear out the prisons, so we can spend the money on something a little more healthy- like education and health.

As much as I agree with you, I fear you're at least twenty five years premature.

That did seem to me to be the root of it. If you want more spending then you have to pay more taxes, or not... but never both, not in the long run. Relying so heavily on a pro-cyclical tax (land/housing) also seems unwise to me.

I do hope that other than bigger classes you don't have to suffer...

I think Californians are getting what they deserve though- they want handouts, but they don't want to pay for them.

It isnt just California. Take a look at this graph depicting the rise in the number of people paying zero in federal income taxes. It was published last year during the election but even if the final number is off, the trend is very clear.
