I'm not sure if I buy the officer's side totally.

Two other officers and a private citizen affirm that the officer is telling the truth. I don't think many cops are that honest either but in this case tapes and eye witness's prove that Sgt. Crowley told the truth.

Suppose the cops had left while Gates was still ranting and raving. Would he have gotten into an altercation with the neighbor who called 911? You don't just let out of control people carry on unless you want to be responsible for what they do. And sometimes they do stupid things. Gates had four hours to cool off in a police station.
