They almost have to because of the trade deficit. Buying bonds, both T bills and corporate bonds provide capital to balance out the trade deficit. If they stop then our economy collapse and we stop buying Chinese goods. That would start some protective measures and we may not ever buy as much Chinese goods again. At least that is the fear.
