The man was in a rant, the cop turned to leave, and the man continued his rant and verbal assault on the cop. Most cops are not going to walk away from that, nor should they. An individual who is in a rant while a cop is present could well pose a risk to himself or others around him when the cop is gone. Which is the reason such individuals are routinely arrested. Gates had a chip on his shoulder -- a racist chip -- and he went off on the cop. Anytime a person is uncooperative when the cop is trying to conduct an investigation, the person is putting himself at risk of arrest.

The 911 caller and the other officers on the scene disagree with you. Its really irresponsible for liberals to be telling people they should refuse to cooperate with police, scream in their face and verbally abuse them.
