Haven't they done so already? It's not showing up yet (badly) in money supply statistics, with M2 only up around 8% over the past year. But that's because there's been so little lending going on. Since a lot of people think that the way to beat inflation is to go into debt, any increased perception of inflation could lead to prophylactic borrowing, to coin a phrase, though probably if I look on Google someone else will have used it.
