Many of both groups of pioneer women were fairly gently raised (as they say), and some of them had servants as well. And then they came to America. Or came West from about 1820 forward (remembering that Ohio was Way West at that time!)....

The interesting thing to me is that these women as a group, either died young, usually in childbirth, or were tough, had many children, and died in their 70's or much later....I am surprised to find how many of mine of the main 6 generations, had women who lived until at least that age. They had the same aches and pains as we do, and sure as heck didn't have Advil or even aspirin....

It's still so hot here tonight....I don't know how any of them survived with as many long skirts and petticoats, etc that they had to wear every day, no matter the temperature...

Many pioneer wives had husbands who were farmers or ranchers and had many children to advance the family enterprise. Needless to say in those times with limited medical, many succumbed during childbirth.
