I just noticed TOS's announcement on the TD Amtd home page. I clicked on the "demo" and it looks pretty impressive. If it's free to Amtd customers, why not try it?

What's not clear from the quick demo I looked at are whether the trades are entered through TOS's system, not Amtd, and what the commissions levels are, now that they're owned by Amtd. I do all my real-time day trading through IB (can't beat the price or performance) and use QT for my real time charts (also free for Amtd customers). So unless TOS offers similar performance & commissions to IB, I would not use them for trading, but might play with their charting package.

Bottom line - I have no experience with TOS and can't answer your questions.
