Your history of events in Afghanistan is the same as mine. There is an important social aspect that I did not see in your post. Before Omar came to power, Afghanistan's workforce consisted of 60% women. When Omar and his men sent those women packing from their jobs and confined them to their homes to raise family and be subservient to their menfolks, it was resented by many. Omar also banned some of the tings that they enjoyed and had nothing to do with Islam. These included Western music etc. I agree that these folks would like to have a orderly form of Govt. But with the situation that we have today, they want to change things violently (includes Pakistan). I would spend more money in improving the lives of the people in Congo than I would do in Afghanistan or Pakistan.
