You mean here in Seattle? There are more homes with A/C the past 10 or so years, but not a lot. I know of a few swamp coolers, but not many. One in six years, we don't even have a single day in the 90s (e.g. 2005). This has been the hottest July since I've lived in Washington, probably since records have been kept really since 1891 or so. We actually have a single room A/C that helps keep things tolerable, except y-day it started to lose the battle and then the power grid totally lost the battle. Les Miserables!
