I didn't forget. I just pointed out that that isn't typical. My insurance just went up twice in the last 3 months (once because I moved to a different age group, and again on general principle). But I'm in the process of switching to a less expensive plan, which was readily available. My wife is keeping hers -- it is in a HSA (for now). At any rate, 14K/y isn't a typical premium for a small family; that is to say, a family of four can usually get reasonable coverage for less than that. Hope you didn't spend too much time looking for that post. Mine is, no doubt, because of various "risk factors" I possess. >> you have no concern for 50 grand family of four or for 47 or 50 million uninsured. Most of those 47 million (the true number is closer to 43 million) "uninsured" are uninsured because the choose to spend their money on other things. So, no, I have no particular concern for those people. I don't want them to get sick or anything. When you boil it down there are about 15 million who truly can't afford health insurance and they get pretty good care through the county hospital system in most places. I do think there is something that can be done for these people. I think a system can be set up that delivers primary care for them for a lot less than the cost of insuring them with a "public option" or co-op. And major medical problems could either be handled through the county hospitals. Realistically, whether a hospitalization costs $10,000 or $100,000 for these people just doesn't matter one bit. They can't pay 1% of either amount and it might as well be $1,000,000.
