Re: "because as more and more people go on the gov plan private insurance will be priced out of existence"

So... you are saying that if the government offers an insurance program that people are free to choose if they want it... that it will be SO MUCH CHEAPER and so much MORE POPULAR that *all* of the private insurance plans in existence (even Goldman-level 'Cadillac plans') will be competed OUT OF EXISTENCE?

That seems a bit EXTREME of a prediction, now doesn't it?

(I mean... I thought that big government bureaucracies were supposed to be inefficient and poor at staying up with consumers' needs and desires, right?)

And... it puts your prediction in STARK CONTRAST to the one just made by the CBO analysis --- which predicted that a 'government option' insurance plan might only come in at 10% or so cheaper then the average private insurance plan on the market today... and that nearly all who currently have 'better then the average' (read: much more expensive and comprehensive and mostly all paid for by employers) would opt to KEEP their existing coverage. (Don't want to trade down, right?)

And that BOTH private and public could thrive in the marketplace....

(But... if you are saying that government services are so all-fired MORE EFFICIENT and all... perhaps you are right and the CBO is wrong? :-)
