I think it's nuts, another example of the government arbitrarily picking winners and losers. Once again the prudent who've always driven fuel efficient cars get screwed. Just like they got screwed when the Bush admin had the "Cash for Hummers" program after 9/11. More bailout bucks for the buggywhip....ERRRRR AUTO industry!<NFG>

Does it bother anyone that the govt is taking money out of your pocket and paying to those folks who have inefficient vehicles?

I love it, having the government take my tax money to give to others to buy new cars! Especially after having paid for my own fuel efficient cars for many years long before the latest spike in oil prices made it fashionable (while others obviously didn't even consider what the MPG on their car might be). I've also loved taking my life in my hands on the highway trying to not get killed by azzholes driving huge gas guzzlers talking on their cell phones.

Hmm! other than the 4 people who have objection to expanding cash for clunker program I presume others should not have a problem if tomorrow govt says, "what the heck, let us pour few 10's of Billions in making PCs Green, that is exchange your old power inefficient PC for a new efficient one and get say $200 in rebate"? :-)", that would make environment green, economy good, many people have old PCs and will use the program, and may be another 4 people will object, what is there to lose? Based on the success of clunkers program, that would seem to be next logical step to stimulate the economy ;-)

What is wrong with that? it helps Microsoft, Intel, HP, Dell etc to make sales and stocks are happy wall street is happy :-), would wall street hire some lobbysts to do that? or may be some *ozo in congress will come up with that idea and no lobbying is needed, just one more step forward to socialist eutopia :-). How can anything that makes wall st happy be bad? Just my Friday cynicism.

This cash for clunkers is killing the little guys...........mechanics will be slaughtered by this and the wholesale market is disappearing.........and one still has to buy a new car that costs a huge amount of money.............upwards of 15k.............good for the new car dealers and financial people.

It will reduce the amount of used cars that are sold on the small lots to people who can't afford the expensive new cars.................all these trade-ins must be crushed.

This program will lead to increased unemployment.
