You can tell by those two photos, the one of Bush helping Byrd and the one of Obama not helping his 'friend' Gates, that Obama's momma was no Barabra Bush

The second group were the weepy, bible-thumping, fetus-loving evangelicals that came in with Reagan and even more strongly with Bush, who directly played to them and pretended to be one of them. These groups are all over, but strongly concentrated in Dixie. If the few remaining brains in the (R) party want it back, they need a new base. I don't see how they get there from here. They have to go after the independents while jettisoning the crazies. It will be a tricky feat to pull off.
