Lemay was for bombing the DMZ in Vietnam with special dirty nukes enhanced to deposit radioactivity that would create a dead zone for tens of thousands of years.

LeMay supported the use of tactical nuclear weapons as a means to quickly end the Vietnam War and might have saved 10s of thousands of American lives. I'm not saying we should have done it, but you can't really bash the guy for the concept.

After all, nuking Japan saved hundreds of thousands of American lives after LeMay's own firebombing had failed to end the war.
