I can see all my abdominals and my BMI is 28.8. During the Tour this year I payed attention to what the riders weighed. Contador, who won, is 5'9" and weighed 137lbs. Andy Schleck, who came in second, is 6'1" and 147lbs - looks like he came out of a concentration camp... Andy's BMI is 19.4 and is considered "normal".

BMI is a joke.

I cant imagine what some of these round obese people weigh.

I have often been surprised at how little some really huge people, the ones who sway or waddle when they walk, actually weigh. I know someone I had pegged at about 300 who actually weighed 240ish. There was a woman at my pool who wore 6X or 7X clothes and took up more than half a lane standing who "only" weighed 370. I would have thought her well over 400. Perhaps that's more true of women than men.

OTOH, I remember back to when I was a 110ish lb teenager going to carnivals where I was guaranteed a prize from the weight guesser who always guessed light, usually more than ten pounds light. I have often thought that people must have different densities of fat as well as bone. Or maybe some just carry it better or in different places.

What I found interesting about that article and why I posted it was the distinction he made for seniors--accepting any over-weight short of the obesity threshold.
