Aren't Navy Seals part of the "special forces"? Marines can volunteer for the Navy Seals.

Nope!

Navy SEALS are part of Naval Special Warfare Command (USNAVSPECWAR).

There is only one Special Forces ~ "US Army Special Forces".
There is only one DOD command authorized to award the "Special Forces" shoulder tab. It is the US Army JFK Special Warfare Center and School at Ft Bragg, NC.
That tab is the primary Special Forces qualification indicator. Everyone wearing that tab has earned the Green Beret, and is SF qualified.

There is only one Major Special Forces Command HQ in DOD. It is at Ft Bragg, NC.

I luv my SEAL brothers but know they are not about to trade their beloved SEAL Badge for a Green Beret.

BTW, Special Forces have their own combat dive school, located on Key West for at least the last 40 years.

The confusion was initiated by USMC a few years ago when they started their Special Operations Command and later renamed it USMC Special Operations Forces. Prior to that Marines could branch transfer to the Army and attend the only Special Forces "Q" Course.
