haik novshadian -- have ABSOLUTELY never heard of such a thing and doubt whether it happened. sounds like a margin call to me. you know if you're stocks are your equity, guess what. on brokers in general, being able to get through is just the beginning. a lot of wheeling and dealing goes on with the traders on the floor and sometimes they don't want to mess with a small trade (by institutional standards). if you don't have a broker who'll fight for your trade you might not get it. and even then sometimes they get bumped if there are a lot or orders at the same price. as for ted turner, this sounds to me like a refurbishment of a tax "loophole" closed in may 97 which allowed an individual to set up a foundation by donating stocks and subsequently distributing a percentage of the assets (can't remember what perdentage). this worked as a tax strategy only for people whose income was in the top bracket.
