1923 Germany, which is why Frankfurt-based ECB is not stepping on QE.
German Mark only added 10 zeroes in a year, very mild
compared to Zimbabwe. Not that the number of zeroes really
matters, but it's always quite high. Even a couple of
zeroes in 4 years will be quite nightmarish. -g-

A bunch of non-rummy countries here. We went off gold
standard in the past too. That experience was brief and worth
about 2 zeroes in 4 years. <g>

United States

During the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress
authorized the printing of paper currency called continental
currency. The easily counterfeited notes depreciated rapidly,
giving rise to the expression "not worth a continental."

Between January 1861 and April 1865, the Lerner Commodity
Price Index of leading cities in the eastern Confederacy
states increased from 100 to over 9000. As the U.S. Civil
War dragged on the Confederate States of America dollar had
less and less value, until it was almost worthless by the last
few months of the war.
