The caloric demands on a long distance cyclist who cycles 100-120 miles a day for a couple of weeks in competition are incredible.

My wife and I did a ride called Ride the Rockies in the early '90s. It was essentially a tour of Colorado, 90 to 110 miles a day, up and down steep mountain passes. I ate all the time, huge amounts of food, and still lost 15 lbs. I am an amateur; the guy in the pic is a pro, and he was probably at the end of a multi-day event. He probably consumes 10,000 calories a day and may well still lose weight during a competition.
