Now yours is an interesting perspective that makes sense. Taking the loan modification makes sense so long as home prices continue to decline - which is a pretty good bet.

The opposing view is, experience shows he'll be unlikely to be asked to leave his current home for another year or two. Why pay $7k per month plus property taxes to live in a home he's currently living in for free?
