The AMA isn't "conservative". Like all such organizations, they're looking out for their own interests.

You should not confuse the AMA with "doctors". The AMA is a subset of "doctors".

The AMA represents about 20% of physicians. And frankly, a substantial number of those are there just for the benefits. I'm a member of AICPA, and organization I despise. But I have numerous insurance policies through them which are dirt cheap. Many physicians are members of AMA for the same reasons.
