I say just f*ck it and have the government buy everyone a car.

I say tax any passenger car that gets less than, say, 18 miles a gallon $4k a year. Then use that for rebates for cars that get 30+ MPG, the first year, 35+ MPG the second year, etc. Before too many years we would be off imported oil.... and THAT would stimulate the economy.
