Jeff, I do not think that it is reasonable to expect any broker to be able to anticipate, in advance, when the heaviest volume day of all time might occur.

Jeff,

I had the same experience with Schwab On-Line (the Internet), but managed to get through on my modem! There were a few delays, but I was able to enter a number of trades when I couldn't get access over the net.

I suspect you were also trying to sell puts? It was my first encounter with the volatility in the options market when things are on the move. Wow! Discovering that one may not be able to execute a trade when the market is changing dramatically is a source of risk that I had not fully appreciated.

I have had no problems connecting to Fidelity this week. Spartan electronic trades have been lowered to $15 and there is no fee to open a short trade. Biggest negative is that you may place short trades electronically but their software does not show the status of short orders due to a problem with their mainframe; you have to call them to check short order status.

BTW I have been following this thread since the beginning but have just recently registered with SI. I am currently short TCA,VVUS,DURA,PRST,LCOS,SEBL,ZITL,SYMC,EGRP,DDIM,CTXS,VIAS,ASI,TSS, and SOLV.

Jeff, I used Baird in Milwaukee (Pat Powell) for some of my ideas and Scottsdale securities for trading on my own. I was able to get through to both pretty much all day. I use Netcom so that may also explain why I had few problems than most on the internet. I wouldn't call either excellent service, but I'd say they both were good.
