I think they could have set the rebate lower and had the same success. The program though, is wonderful. It PERMANENTLY removes a pollution spewing gasoline hog from our roads FOREVER.

It doesn't matter whether the car was road-worthy to begin with. WTF? I will pose the same question to you that I posed to inode....do you not read the knews, or are you just a dumb fukk? Back in March, no one was buying cars. It looked like the world was going into a global depression. Rs like Bernanke and Paulson were terrified as were many others. Cars for clunkers was one of several attempts to stimulate the economy's recovery. Its working. You should be grateful; not churlish. There is a reason why that requirement is in place, though. It's real simple. The government doesn't want people going out there, picking up some pike of junk, then trading it in for $4,500. That's an incredible waste of taxpayer's money (although guys like you and RW think that even wasteful spending is "stimulus"). RW and I are both fiscal conservatives. However, we are not ideologues. That allows us a degree of flexibility that apparently the Rs do not have. Sorry.
