steven, over margined accounts. they'll drop a stock if they feel the stock is over margined to clear out the margins as it will increase the volume and their ultimate take home. once cleared, the stock begins to move - news always helps. it can be counter productive for the maker to do this for his account - depends on the company. obviously many are concerned about the past two days events. we've got to get past this; there are other reasons.

the bottom line is that a maker will take a stock where they feel the most volume lies. but it must be done within their working bounds
