Good points. That's not a healthy development. It's true - often they buy contents for their pipelines and act in effect as bankers, marketers and political liaisons. But they still have plenty of depth of their own, as far as I know. Even as middlemen they still make more sense than most politicians. Much of the corporatist malaise is the result of politicians having too much power. If politicos couldn't "deliver", businesses would not be in a hurry to "buy" them.
