Interesting article John.

The reason the focus on oil should still be on the US is that the USA consumes more oil per day than all of Asia, Australasia and Africa combined!

A couple of things jump out of the page:
"Overall primary energy consumption nudged up just 1.4 per cent (in 2008), the smallest rise since 2001."

...and the final comment from that article:
"Moving towards an efficient global economy, where there are no subsidies on energy, will take pressure off the supply side, he added."

There are arguments on both sides of the equation.
Its all about spin.
