I happen to agree with that article.....her appointment does not change the ideological balance on the Court....and the potential downside with Hispanic voters is significant.....however, I think President Obama will be so unpopular by next year that it probably won't make much difference in the long run....Obama is shaping up as a one termer....<<

The Republican's are thinking the same thing and they are making a mistake I think, for this reason. The hard right does not change parties no matter what. The same is basically true of the left. So the midddle becomes the swing voters. But the middle has moved to the left.

So lets use some logic. Blacks will vote for Obama no matter what. Over 95% and they will all register and go to the polls. So will the left. As you know, I am a hard core liberal and we are grumbling, but we are all yellow dog democrats, so we will all vote for Obama. Especially as the hard right is increasing its vitriol e.g. birthers and health care disruptions, so we will actually circle the wagons around obama.

And after the Sotomayor (right wing debacle) the Hispanics (at least a firm majority) will vote for Obama because the dems will make sure every Hispanic in the country never forgets that vote as they will all take it personally (it was maybe the dumbest thing I have ever seen a political party do). And remember they also voted against a woman and so the women will vote for Obama in the majority.

That only leaves white southern males and there are simply not enough of them. Besides I expect the economy will be fine as the stimulous package really only starts to kick in now and will run through 2010.

FDR was elected 4 times through very hard times.
