That's just what Obama was trying to avoid...ever having to defend a finished plan. That's what sunk Hillarycare. She produced a finished plan, and those whose oxen were gored pulled it to pieces. Obama intended to wrap his plan in vagueness (just like he campaigned, come to think of it) and ram a bill home before anybody was the wiser. But even this Congress cannot write up three pages of good intentions and call it a bill. They have to write the details down, and there the trouble begins.

What Obama cannot figure out (or maybe he's just starting to) is that intractable problems in this world are not intractable just because The Great O wasn't around to solve them before. They have deep structural reasons for being intractable. Reforming US Healthcare is one such. Finding Mideast peace is another. Obama just voluntarily walked with sublime confidence into two buzzsaws, one foreign and one domestic, with entirely predictable results.

But he's sooooo smart, as Bill Maher reminds us. How could this be?

How long does it take for people to come down from an Obama Hopium (h/t John Kass) high? Do you think people will be sober by year's end? I am just befuddled by how many smart people have been taken in by the idea of Obama's smarts - clearly truly deceived. I don't even know by what. As far as I can see, Obama is not a patch on Bill Clinton as a pol. He just has a great speech-delivering talent. I can't even say 'speech-making talent' because Obama cannot put together an argument to save his life. His speeches have a non-sequitur every other paragraph and none of them are worth reading the morning after. But they sound great while he delivers them.
