AAPL spokesperson did say Jobs is not out of contention, but did not say that there is no need for a CEO. But can you think of any set of circumstances that makes sense of this situation where-

- Jobs muses on considering the position himself (ie: "nobody need apply")

- Jobs tells Pixar analysts he will be back by January, but doesn't tell the AAPL investors that he is not taking the position, even though he was supposed to say something on his return from Hawaii that day. Jobs further instructs AAPL spokesperson to say the status quo situation remains .... why if he knows??? (ie: "I need Board approval first")

WHAT COULD THEY BE PROPOSING TO THE BOARD ??? It cannot just be a simple yes/no decision on CEO for himself.

What if Joe Costello is going to run AAPL and Knowledge Universe as a combined entity - would that fit the facts?
