I have already decided to discontinue this discussion, perhaps noting that George Washington had pretty much the same point of view as I do about Shay's Rebellion.

I began moderating my admiration for Jefferson years ago when I found out that he had left his family huge debts when he died, and (unlike Washington) did not arrange for his more than a hundred slaves to be freed.

I guess I tend to admire people who make self-sacrifices more than people who encourage others to sacrifice themselves.
