Come on, Bach was 1/16th negroe!! Or maybe it was 1/17th??
At the start of our debate after joining EU one "Wise Finn" (compare, "Wise Latina") said something like this..
FInally we will go back to the medieval times, when people moved freely (across and around the Baltic sea, rowing and sailing), married, traded and had fun, spoke a minimum of 4-5 languages(just like still in Africa),etc.etc..
This also includes the thought, fact, that the "top-down religious stuff" did not start until the end of the medieval times (which actually wasn't very dark, propaganda from later on) Taxes were mainly payed locally (as they still are in scandinavia, 70-80% "never leaves town", invested locally), nation states, strict borders got started in the early 1800s and then "national language and race" in the turn of the century 1800/1900.
PS My own theory is that "music" tends to "copy" the "human body" as well as "nature" as a "sound". Although this is included in the "classic rules" for "classic music" it leaves out almost all the "important stuff" that really "makes the brain and body resonate". Started from the "math", that the "natural scale" (which is actually very unnatural) is based on simple numbertheory, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 where N/M represents the "scale". Bach actually made it smarter but worse, when he did the "tempered scale", by using logarithmics "anything could be played by any instrument", etc,etc..
Although "this" is the very basic truth/fact, all the "real stuff" is left out. "beaten out of otherwise promising students in the classic music academy".
Luckily this is changing, has changed fast, the last 20-30 years in our music academy.
PPS One of my favorite examples is the GSM(and all other too) vocoder, which actually makes a model of the human vocal tract, a series of 12 short tubes with different diameters ending in the "lip function" (purely derivative in nature, hehe) The diameter of those tubes are then transmitted to the other phone appr 50 times a second. (well, plus all the stuff which is missing, otherwise it sounds like a frog).
The capability to "hear" is then the real interesting thing.
I am happy to have just noticed that our "digital signal prosessing" guys and our "classic music academy" has started to cooperate. Brazil seems to be in the real forefront in terms of "real music for tomorrow", which includes many factors. The "Death" of the few "commercial, recording, massmarketing" music-monopolies due to internet and "recording, producing, marrketing on a PC". Additionally Brazil probably has "the most material" to "evolve further", music, sounds from almost "all over the world". Most importantly, this "living, evolving music" was not killed by "the music industry", radio, TV, LPs,etc.
Huge philosphic heavy stuff on how all of this goes hand in hand with brain, capability to produce, cooperate,etc..etc..etc..
And why not also "steal"??
PPPS I think the most aftersought philharm. directors are not anymore finnish, you now have this younger Dude-something. WEll, all these "new generation classics" guys obviously "know each other" very well, have fun together, but lately your "Dude" seems to be beating his older finnish (models and)teachers.. |
