Juan Peron implemented many of the same policies in Argentina, years before Reagan trotted them out in the United States.

Yet many decades after Peron destroyed Argentina he is still adored and most Argentinians don't understand that his policies were responsible for their plight, regardless of the abundant facts available.

This is the expertise of a true demagogue. They're able to rob you, punch you in the face, and steal your children's future - and still you don't understand the connection between the demagogue's actions and the misfortune which has befallen you.

There is very little that can be done to help these unfortunates. No amount of education or factual information has ever been very successful in releasing their minds from the trance of the demagogue. Even years after the demagouge is dead.

"Reagan's debt explosion created growth", they chant, "It's the Bullet Curve, it's obvious and doesn't depend upon facts or truth" they emphasize. No facts to the contrary will ever reach them. Perhaps criminal insanity can be transmitted?

Regardless, the damage has been done and the bill has now come due. Nothing can change that.

I think Reagan was a buffoon.

Yup...

And established the tradition of modern day Republicanism, wherein an idiot is annointed and functions as the bagman for the moneyed special interests who can capture their childlike, Ayn Rand tendencies, and turn them into reverse Robin Hood policies to the detriment, and of late, the near ruin of the country.
