Not always; a counterparty large enough can support a failing entity and wait it out until the predatory trading ends. And hell the trading against lehman and other failing banks was predatory, in the end. Until blood was running the streets.

I think the Pendulum could swing to the other side pretty soon. Meaning two things the fed has entities with "winning contracts" at least on a relative, written-down basis (see AIG). But also: Others notice that and trade into the other direction, creating bubbles and, overheating again...
