Better than OLEDs is Qualcomm's Mirasol - though it hasn't been fully developed yet and is just coming into production now in elementary forms.

The huge advantage of Mirasol is the use of ambient light to illuminate the screen. Indoors, that's not much advantage though it does save on battery life. But outdoors, Mirasol will be an enormous advantage with screens being more visible with really bright light such as around swimming pools and on beaches where screens are currently all but invisible.

The two advantages of Mirasol = battery saving and visibility. If they can get it done right at a reasonable price, there will be billions sold. With Snapdragon and Gobi in Smartbooks, battery life will become an also-ran as a problem. Connection costs will be the big issue.
