FRE turned in a profit for Q2, even though they posted a small loss due to the preferred dividends paid to the government. I guess their accountants did a slightly better job than FNM for the quarter. They picked up alot of derivative gains and accounting gains to offset their $5 billion credit loss for the quarter.

Both stocks might end up in my housing bottom recovery basket today. Everyone has written these guys off for dead, even though they are still the largest companies in housing. They might be able to start paying some preferred dividends in the near future as their credit losses continue to decline.

FRE had positive equity for the quarter around $8 billion, which means they don't need capital injections this quarter. I guess FNM will be back to neutral by next quarter. Gonna have to look at FRE's financials, but I like the fact they are finally back to positive equity.
