do you really think that those who are not in good enough shape to do the rehab qualify for knee or hip replacement? That's a waste of money no matter who is paying for it and no matter whose loved one has the bum joint. You don't ... That's as it should be, seems to me.

I am genuinely shocked. I never would have suspected you of being so condescending and authoritarian. Thank goodness it is neither your call nor the other Authoritarian Liberals who would tell us how we must behave, yet.

There are a few medical procedures which have limited supplies and there rationing by lifestyle makes more sense. I agree that giving a transplanted liver to an alcoholic is not wise. Restricting manufactured joints by lifestyle is simply imposing your opinions on others - this is accurately called Authoritarian Liberalism.

you're trying to turn an exaggeration into a probability.

I am pointing out the future. If you choose to believe that government bureaucrats will always do the right thing then you and I don't agree at all.

Throughout history government bureaucrats have abused their power and cut services while taking more pay for themselves.

You also have a huge advantage over me. I do not prefer to learn a whole host of third world foreign languages to communicate with my doctors. As reimbursement is cut Americans will be increasingly unwilling to accept the crumbs and our doctors will all be foreigners just like the other countries with socialized medicine.

Will medical providers be required to foot the cost of translating into Engflish or will it fall upon patients?

That's a waste of money no matter who is paying for it and no matter whose loved one has the bum joint. You don't need to be biased against the obese or a nanny authoritarian to recognize that.

David Crosby received a liver transplant, after years of self-abuse of just about every form. Yet, he has managed to turn his life around (well, except, he's still an extremist liberal; but there is no treatment for that). My brother, who had been overweight for a substantial portion of his life, got a knee replacement a couple years ago, and now makes an effort to take care of himself.

I don't think you can just cut people off from services because they haven't live the life someone judges to be appropriate.
