WTF was your stupid post to me about? Did you go back and read over GZ's post and my reply? Can you understand "context"?

More courtroom laughter!

Are you inferring that 1% of the amount paid for health care is a insignificant dollar amount?

1% is nothing to ignore, however, the defensive medicine that is practiced for fear of being in tomorrows paper: "dr. Smith sued for medical incompetence!" creates a massive number of unnecessary CT scans and diagnostic studies.

many years ago, most patients w typical migraine headaches or sinus headaches were simply evaluated and sent home w follow up.

today, hardly any headache of any kind leaves the ER without obtaining an expensive CT scan. this scenario may be repeated w the same patient sometimes 5, 10 times or more over the years.

it would just be the luck of some poor er doc to get the less than 1 in a thousand who actually has an acute subarachnoid bleed from an unknown cerebral aneurysm. the same is true for any child and most adults w a given history of the slightest bump on the head! automatic CT scan!

"hit on head by falling acorn" automatic CT scan!
(just kidding here, but almost that bad )

it goes on and on. defensive medicine is a very big part of the health care crisis today.

What about the 40% waste and fraud from medicare and medicaid? That alone could pay for obama's crazy health care plan... but instead, you can expect an additional 40% waste and fraud there too, this obama/ponzi scheme is going to cost about $15 trillion every year overall, and growing...

And not a word mentioned about tort reform to eliminate frivolous malpractice litigation... malpractice insurance is driving good physicians out of business... it's very obvious, obama is in bed with crooked lawyers...

"Medical malpractice settlements and awards are about 1% of the amount paid for health care."

Others have pointed out that there are costs associated with "defensive" medical procedures. In addition, I would be interested in knowing what percentage of the amount paid for health care is paid out for malpractice insurance. Do you have that figure? Surely it has to be more than the amount of the settlements.
