Yes, US$ is freely traded. That does not prevent Obama calling for bank holiday and unilaterally declaring a 10% to 50% devaluation in the dollar...

That said, the problem then is finding investors to finance US budget/trade deficit. Bond holders will not be happy with such a devaluation... This is what Mish needs to analyze and review... This is a conceivable end game.

Such a bank holiday/devaluation could be in conjunction with global currency. It may have to be if no investors are buying US Treasury bonds to finance budget/trade deficit.
