I think that the angry townhall meetings were an important first stage. Congress needed to be awakened to the fact that they were about to steamroll over a very large portion of the population. I think that reasoned debate can happen now. The angry mob had pretty simple requests...Read the Bill!!! The democratic party may have a big goal, but the congresscritters will be thinking about their own situation first. The democratic party line will be useful as long as it keeps them in office. If it becomes clear that they will get voted out of office, those democratic congresscritters will swing their support the other direction.
