The Catholic church likes poor people so much it wants to keep everybody poor ;-)

If you are within about 400 miles of the Alps, things seem to go better. I don't exactly know what the Catholic church does, but look at their reputation for fostering economic progress in Latin America. Contrast with progress from Australia (lots of criminals) which worked out okay.

I would prefer a church with Deng Xia Ping, Louis Pasteur and Henry Ford as saints, since they have moved more people out of poverty and disease.
