Curlton, this particular bear stated that he worked in the industry "with 193nm steppers". It is incredulous to think that even though Komatsu introduces a laser next year in the spring (after or about the same time that Cymer has already introduced their Argon Flouride model) that they will extrapolate huge market share from Cymer in 1998. The four firms already using Cymer's lasers would need to retool for each fab line with a Cymer laser on one and a Komatsu laser on the other, thereby increasing the costs to the lines. I'm a market specialist and not a laser specialist. Maybe you could address this issue if you have time. Thank you.

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to hide behind his mothers apron strings. If they've got something to say - say it openly.

What is of concern is the fact that even though these people claim to work in the industry, they believe that a "better performing engine" will steal the road show. Remember the Mazda RX6 rotary engine - the engine to beat all other engines performance wise? It never came about. There is such a thing called market entrenchment.

Syquest has claimed for SEVERAL years that they have a better performing disk drive that Iomega's Zip. The market choose Zip because it was easier to use, the performance difference was minimal and Iomega applied the right marketing tools. Better performance is not the key to success in the market. It is always a key for technically related persons, but there are stronger forces in the market for engines that perform in relative similar manners. So Komatsu's engine performs slightly better - who cares? Can they market it? Does this performance outweight current more important variables such (a) to market time, (b) cost of ownership etc.?
